Apple Cider Vinegar, How It’s Made
Apple cider vinegar is made from apple juice or apple cider. It comes in two different versions. There are many health benefits with using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV), but the most beneficial is raw, unfiltered and with “the” mother. Don’t get them confused because one is the clear cider you can purchase in your local supermarket, has been pasteurized and has little health benefits. It’s mostly used for cooking certain dishes and the filtering process removes the vinegar “mother” and any sediment, leaving it clear amber-colored.
Raw, organic is made from organic apples and undergoes a double fermentation process, which produces enzymes and preserves health-promoting characteristics. The mother hasn’t been filtered out and likely isn’t pasteurized. Its appearance is cloudy and a somewhat murky collection of cellulose and acetic acid bacteria, the good stuff that settles at the bottom of the bottle.
Drinking a glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it is known to be very effective for weight loss because it’s known to speed up metabolism. Those who drink this regularly in the morning on an empty stomach are also known to experience fewer hunger pangs throughout the day. Some studies suggest that it also helps the body get rid of fat.
Improve Your Blood Sugar Level
Apple cider vinegar is often recommended as a natural way to control blood sugar levels, especially for people with insulin resistance which helps your body move more glucose out of the bloodstream and into your cells, thus lowering blood sugar levels. It may also contain the antioxidant chlorogenic acid, which has been shown to protect LDL cholesterol particles from becoming oxidized, a crucial step in the heart disease process.
Some say drinking four teaspoons diluted in water before a high-carb meal, slow the rate of stomach emptying and prevents blood sugar spikes regulating their blood sugar.
The uses are almost limitless and have been known to ease digestion, aid in flu prevention, reduce inflammation, regulate pH balance, ease nausea and heartburn, as a staple in detox regimens, and for a number of skin conditions including reducing acne and smoothing wrinkles. I hear people say they swear by it. I myself am never without it because there’s a variety of things I use it for. I have a friend who uses it to soak her feet in after a full standing on her feet at work.
Even though it is acidic like lemon or the secret may lie in its alkalizing effect because it creates a perfect environment in your body that is the exact opposite of what most diseases require to thrive. Some of the most beneficial nutrients in raw, organic cider include:
•Potassium: essential for normal heart, kidney, and other organ and cellular function
•Iron: important for blood health
•Magnesium: vital to heart health
•Enzymes: boost chemical reactions in the body
•Malic acid: protects vinegar from viruses, bacteria, and fungus
•Acetic acid: slows the digestion of starch and inhibits bacterial growth
•Calcium: builds strong bones and teeth
•Pectin: helps regulate blood pressure
There are many types of raw, unfiltered and mother Apple Cider Vinegar available. Bragg’s is one of the most popular and trusted brands that’s been around since 1912. ACV can help lower cholesterol and reduces your risk of heart disease. Cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) is currently the world’s biggest cause of death.

It also can help a list of other things like tummy troubles, hiccups, soothes a sore throat, clears a stuffy nose, gets rid of dandruff, cuts down on nighttime leg cramps, banishes bad breath, whitens teeth, fades bruises, burns, wounds, poison ivy, athletes foot, toenail fungus, dandruff and removing warts.
Drink To Enjoy
Some people choose to take pills over liquid apple cider vinegar if they don’t like the vinegar’s strong taste or smell. There are many ways to tone down the taste. I prefer mine with a pinch of baking soda and a small amount of water which helps me to avoid the pungent taste and I can drink it straight down that way.
I also like to fill:
-A mason jar with about
-24 ounces of filtered water
-2 TB mixed berries
-1 TB of Lemon Juice
-Extra lemons, if desired
Several drops of Stevia to my liking and ice for a cool summer drink. You can be as creative as you desire because there are so many ways to incorporate AVC into your daily routine.
Apple Cider Vinegar For Kidney Stones
Kidneys have a very vital role to play in our daily well-being. They filter and purge impurities from the blood and produces urine to help us pass out these impurities from our body. At times when these substances are in a huge amount, they tend to accumulate and bunch together and thus form kidney stones. Kidney stones can range from the size of a grain to the size of a golf ball and are often associated with symptoms like pain in the abdomen, nausea, recurrent and painful urination, etc.
Depending on the size of the kidney stone, the treatment for it can vary. There is a variety of remedies available to treat kidney stones. Apple cider vinegar is packed with citric acid, which not only helps in preventing the stone formation but also aids in dissolving them into small particles so they can pass through urine on their own.
Guard Your Teeth
Avoid swishing vinegar around in your mouth. It’s best if you are drinking shots to use another liquid, preferably water. Don’t eat or drink other acidic things like orange juice, grapefruit, or tomatoes immediately after AVC. Make sure to rinse your mouth out with water if you are drinking without diluting it first. Using a straw is a good way to drink apple cider vinegar without coming in contact with your teeth because weakened enamel increases your vulnerability to tooth decay and cavities, causing your teeth to become sensitive.
It’s Even Pet-Friendly
Apple cider vinegar is a natural flea and tick repellent. At one point or another, you’ll likely have to deal with your dog getting fleas. The pests exist everywhere, even in climates you wouldn’t expect. Many pet parents don’t love the idea of a monthly chemically-based prevention medicine, but obviously still want the dog or cat to be flea and tick free.
Spraying your pet with a 50/50 solution of ACV and water before they go outside is an effective way to prevent fleas and ticks from making landfall on your dog’s fur. In many parts of the country, you may need extra protection during flea and tick season.
ACV keeps the pH levels in pet’s blood slightly acidic which fleas detest. Therefore, dog and cat owners have found that adding 2 tablespoons to their pet’s food or water does the trick. Also, If you massage the coat with full-strength apple-cider vinegar before shampooing your pet, many have found positive results in reducing dander as well.
Those are just a few benefits of many that have been found to be very useful. If you know of any other helpful ways to use ACV, let me know.
